Minutes of the 7th National Conference of Plant Scientists

In the General Body Meeting held on November 15, 2000 at University of the Punjab, Lahore, following decisions were made:

  • Pakistan Journal of Botany will be published quarterly
  • There would be 4 regional Editors, i.e., one from each province and subsequently 4 editorial committees for major disciplines:
  1. Physiology/Biochemistry, Cell & Molecular Biology.
  2. Diversity of Plants (Non-Vascular
    Taxonomy/Morphology/Embryology & Angiosperms).
  3. Microbiology, Biotechnology, Microbial and Molecular Genetics.
  4. Ecology, Environmental Biology.
  • Newsletter of Pakistan Botanical Society will be published from Islamabad. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Deputy Director General, NARC Islamabad, will look after the Newsletter.
  • The annual membership fee will be Rs. 200/- w.e.f. 2001 and for lifemember Rs. 2000/-
  • There would be one award for young scientists. The amount of Rs. 50,000 donated for the purpose has been fixed deposited in Punjab University in the name of "Khalid Hameed Sheikh Award". Chairman/Chairperson, Department of Botany, University of the Punjab will operate the account. This award was instituted by Dr. Khalid Hameed Sheikh, Ex-Vice Chancellor and would be given on the occasion of the conference to the best young scientist (up to 35 years).
  • The next meeting will be held at University of Karachi in 2002.
